OMG for OMG!con 2018! (Oh, and I'm back)

So I am going to have to start off with an apology:

I was never able to buckle down to finish anything related to Youmacon 2017 and from there dropped off the face of book (and the world) until today. Unfortunately, the teacher life takes precedence over anything from the anime and gaming realm, but I have decided to work on writing in the Summer, and what better way to start off a return to writing with my first trip to OMG!con in Owensboro, Kentucky?

(As a heads-up, I promise to get the pictures uploaded from Youmacon 2017)

"But pinoyknight, how did a 'mid-western pinoy boy' such as yourself end up going to Kentucky?"

Well let me tell you! :D

Back during Anime Central last year (2017), I happened to pass by the booth hosted by OMG!con. They had a Kagaya Wood Garapon (it's one of those spinny wheel things you see in anime that have balls come out of it) on display and I decided to try my luck. As luck would have it, I ended up winning an assortment of anime items (which I gave away to students) and a free 3-day pass to their convention for 2017.

"But pinoyknight, that was 2017! How did you end up going this year?"

Yeah, remember when I said the "teacher life takes precedence"? I had to work and was unable to accrue the funds within 3 weeks. On the bright side, they said that I would be able to move my winnings to things year so one thing lead to another and after a long, winding, hellish drive through Indiana (which took 7 godforsaken hours), here I am in Central Standard Time, eating some biscuits and gravy at a Super 8 Hotel, typing this post.

SO, what should I be expecting from this convention? Well, I heard that one of the voice acting greats (Greg Ayres) is in attendance! For those are you who are new to anime, he has voiced a diverse range of characters as diverse as his hair color, between child mage-prodigy "Negi Springfield" (Negima), the apathetic and distant "Kaworu Nagisu" (Evangelion: Director's Cut), and more recently, the deceptive fighter "Frost" (Dragon Ball Super). He has voiced many roles throughout the years and it will be an honor to meet a veteran of the field. Oh, and someone who also DJ's on the side! (He's going to be hosting the dance party here!!) :D

(Greg Ayres)

Andrea Caprotti will also be in attendance, from what I've seen from the guests page! Animator, illustrator, and cat enthusiast extraordinaire, Caprotti was one of the animators on Red vs. Blue, a famous Rooster Teeth staple, and currently, the anime-styled show by the name of RWBY!! She has also animated for Cartoon Network Games and is credited at Armature Games for her work on Recore. She seems like a phenomenal human being and I look forward to meeting the person who animated my high school years (watching Red vs. Blue was a bright part of my life back then). ^_^

(Andrea Caprotti)

There are many other famous actors, animators, cosplayers and more! Typical of anime conventions, there are exhibitors and an artist alley, and even panels with a wide-array of topics which include the science and art of shipping, voice acting, transitions from YouTube to the professional world, outdoor events, workshops and my personal favorite: Combating depression. I look forward to seeing as much as I can in my first time here!

I hope to see how friendly people are and their amazing cosplays, how the convention itself is organized, and what makes this convention special in its own right; The community itself and how this convention (and all anime conventions for that matter) brings in a diverse crowd of people, for those new to the anime world, for veterans of the "weeaboo" nature, or families who want to show their kids a good time.

Lastly, I am honestly glad to get back into the swing of things; After this involuntary hiatus, I am finally able to write and tell you all of the amazing conventions stress free! Unfortunately, I was unable to get here until 11:46 PM CST, but from the looks of the schedule, Saturday is going to be packed with many activities, panels, and con-goers. Oh, and awesome dance parties.

On their 13th run and rising attendance year-to-year, OMG!con will definitely have attendees telling their friends "OMG"! (Cheesy, I know.)

Now if you will excuse me, I'm a bit late and I have a convention to enjoy!

Thanks for waiting all this time!
