Youmacon 2017: The Prelude to 2018

It's not everyday that you can grab a picture with the wonderful Celica, Magilou, Mordred, and more! Oh, this is the beautifully talented Erica Lindbeck!

Because you just have to doubt your ability to do anything as a hobby writer/website manager..... T_T

BUTT, I have pictures from Youmacon 2017 up!

As Youmacon 2018 is coming around to corner, I figured that now is a better time than any if I want to get some kind of work done!

I excluded (due to the pictures being a bit too dark) "The Notorious [Zombie Related] Erotic Fanfic Show, with D.C. Douglas". That is something I will attempt to cover later on, so don't you worry.

And yes, the panel alone is well worth your convention trip. :)

The picture to the left is some scrub (me) with the beautifully talented Erica Lindbeck! For those of you who do not know her, she has voiced many amazing characters such as the haughty and brash Mordred (Fate Apocrypha), the lovely priestess Celica (Fire Emblem Echoes), and even the whimsical and flimsy Magilou (Tales of Berseria).

There are even photos with Kaiba Corp President Eric Stuart- ...err, I mean Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh!), Director and Voice Actor Joel McDonald, D.C. Douglas (or should I say, "Albert Wesker"?) (Resident Evil series), and even the childhood legacy himself, BILLY WEST (Philip J. Fry on Futurama)!!!

Working on the post for these photos and this convention, I realized that being at events like these are not only a way for one to appreciate the things you're into, but because dreams get to be lived; you get to meet people that you have admired for (unknowingly) the longest time and even find out that "hey, they are some pretty chill people", or something along those lines. Youmacon 2017 invited some of the best guests to emphasize this; from Eric Stuart and Billy West, to D.C. Douglas and even Erica Lindbeck, they are some of the nicest and most informative guests that have ever graced this convention!

Youmacon 2017 had some of the best atmospheric qualities that I have even witnessed for a Youmacon. No, I don't mean the gravity was 100% fresh or anything. I mean it as the quality camaraderie that large conventions like it should have! It is always a great thing to see a diverse array of people from different parts from the US (and even the world) to come and support each other at places like these! Typically, large conventions usually tend to focus on things running as smoothly as possible to the point where they even forgo the needs of the con-goers themselves. However, the staff and the community were still able to keep things grounded whilst doing their best to support those who find joy in places such as these. Of course, I am pretty sure there may have been a hiccup or two here-and-there, something Youmacon has always been atypical with is that their staff and the event as a whole always tends to attract one of the nicest con-munities (it's a pun, deal with it) that should always be apparent. Sure, 2016 was a bit sloppy and disorganized whilst 2013 was antonymous to it, but what every Youmacon year has in common is their ability to do it's best for their guests.

How about their arcade? Well, they definitely did not fall short on the amount of arcade games there, either being console gaming or imports from Japan, their game room had a diverse array of it! Before I bought my own Nintendo Entertainment System (yeah, I'm old), it was definitely nice being able to relive the classics there. I even got to try my hand (or body, for that matter) at Virtual Reality on the PSVR. Of course, the tournament scene (for Smash 4 at least), left something to be desired. Complaints and opinions about "con-tournaments" were still prevalent and the salty aura (metaphorically) was a bit of an all-time high. I am not sure if it's the type of people (which yes, I understand that this is a bit contradicting to the last paragraph) or the setting, or whatever, a general suggestion for doing con-tournaments: Just go in to have fun, or you just ruin it for everybody! Aside from that, the arcade room was nice.

(In fairness, I felt like I had to bring up one negative....)

His first con!! ^_^

Did you need a reason to go to Youmacon this year (2018)? Well, not only is Cherami Leigh gracing us with her goddess-tier voice (GOOD JOB, YOUMACON!!), but if there is any indication to the consistency of how the con is maintained in comparison to its previous years, then I can promise you that this upcoming one will not disappoint! This convention has a lot from arcades, special guests, gaming, and more! More importantly, the general con-munity of it all is something anybody needs to experience a great event, especially if it's their first. I did bring my friend there for his first time and his exact words were "BEST FIRST CON EVER"!

Yes, if you have not attended yet, then here is your chance! With it's rising attendance year-to-year (1,078; 2005 to 22,142; 2017), Youma does not look like it'll be slowing down anytime soon! It is great at being a con-goer's first experience! Take my word: It was my first one too! ^_^

Yes, shirtless D.C. Douglas. Yes, it was awesome.

Hell, I've attended for 3 years and am happy to attend for a 4th!

(Also, why would you not want to go? Who DOESN'T want to see a shirtless D.C. Douglas?)

:D

Contact me if you want to know more about Youmacon! Please go; it'll definitely be worth your while! ^_^
